K3Y Ltd authors a paper on “Defending industrial internet of things against Modbus/TCP threats: A combined AI-based detection and SDN-based mitigation solution”

K3Y Ltd is proud to announce the publication of the paper entitled "Defending industrial internet of things against Modbus/TCP threats: A combined AI-based detection and SDN-based mitigation solution" in the International Journal of Information Security (Springer): https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10207-025-01076-2

 

The authors (Thanasis Kotsiopoulos, Panagiotis Radoglou Grammatikis, Zacharenia Lekka, Valeri Mladenov and Panagiotis Sarigiannidis) present a comprehensive security framework for Industrial IoT environments utilizing the Modbus/TCP protocol. The proposed approach combines AI-powered intrusion detection—based on an Active ResNet50 Convolutional Neural Network—with SDN-based adaptive mitigation, guided by Thompson Sampling. The system achieves over 98% detection accuracy with minimal false positives, and intelligently isolates threats in real time.

 

This research was conducted in the context of the AIAS project.
