We are looking for a full-time Senior Network and Security Engineer to join and work with K3Y Ltd, a fast-growing SME with presence in Bulgaria and Greece. As a Senior Network and Security Engineer within our R&D Department in Sofia, Bulgaria, you will lead and contribute to the design, development, and implementation of advanced network and cybersecurity solutions within EU-funded research and innovation projects. You will be responsible for coordinating technical work packages focused on secure network architectures, intrusion detection and prevention systems, secure communication protocols and threat mitigation strategies, while ensuring alignment with project objectives and industry standards. Your role will involve hands-on R&D activities, including defining system requirements, security specifications, risk assessments, and technical documentation, as well as prototyping and validating novel cybersecurity mechanisms. Collaborating closely with internal technical teams and external consortium partners, you will facilitate the delivery of high-quality technical outcomes and actively contribute to innovation strategies. Additionally, you will represent the company in technical meetings, consortium review meetings and cybersecurity-focused workshops and conferences, driving the advancement of secure and resilient digital infrastructure across project initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Development of network management and security tools with solid understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware.
- Development of NFV/SDN solutions having experience with virtualisation, containerisation and orchestration solutions, such as Network Function Virtualisation (NFV), Docker, Docker Compose and Kubernetes.
- Development of network and attack emulators with good knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, and switching.
- Development of security datasets, supporting cybersecurity-related analytics and predictive models.
- Editing, authoring and delivery of technical reports and deliverables.
- Contribution to scientific papers, white papers, technical reports, policy outcomes and regulation outcomes.
- Participation in technical meetings.
- Planning and coordinating project timelines and milestones.
- Monitoring project progress and ensuring adherence to deadlines, while identifying and managing project risks and issues.
- Facilitating cross-functional collaboration among team members, while participating in technical meetings as a representative of K3Y Ltd.
- Staying up-to-date with the latest network and cybersecurity technologies, tools, and trends.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, ICT or related fields.
- Strong proficiency in Python programming.
- Self-motivated, positive attitude and ability to work with minimal or no supervision.
- Ability to travel frequently abroad.
- Ability to understand, design solutions, contribute to and discuss ICT and engineering problems.
- Ability to discuss, negotiate and work with international partners.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- MSc or/and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in scientific or engineering field, preferably in computer science, electrical engineering or ICT.
- Proven experience in participating in EU-funded R&D/R&I projects such as H2020, Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, Interreg, EDF, Digital Europe or similar.
- Certifications in network and cybersecurity (e.g., CCNA, CISSP, CEH) are highly desirable.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
