ACROSS Selected as Stream A Project in SNS Journal 2024

The SNS Journal 2024, prepared by the SNS OPS project, has been released. This second issue aims to showcase the Call#2 projects launched in early 2024 and highlight the initial achievements of the Call#1 projects after their first year of operation. ACROSS, our leading research and innovation project, is being featured in the SNS Journal 2024 as one of the projects in Stream A (Smart communication components, systems, and networks for 5G Evolution systems), which trace an evolutionary path towards the development of 6G networks. Discover our concept, delve into our proposed system architecture, explore our test cases and find out project’s first results on pages 24-25.

About SNS JU

In January 2024 the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) launched its second portfolio of 28 additional research, innovation, and trial projects for a total of 63 SNS projects (35 call 1 projects launched in January 2023 and 28 call 2 projects launched in early 2024). All the 63 projects are critical in establishing a solid research and innovation (R&I) foundation for Europe, defining the next-generation networks.

With a combined funding of around 382 million EUR under Horizon Europe, this project portfolio aims to build a first-class European supply chain for advanced 5G systems and Europe’s 6G (6th Generation Wireless Systems) technology capacities.

The Research and Innovation (R&I) projects will develop smart communication components, systems, and networks for 6G, tracing both an evolutionary path through further enhancements of 5G advanced technology as well as a more revolutionary path by investigating the benefits of promising technological enablers. Technology validation initiatives will develop SNS experimental infrastructures and carry out large-scale SNS trials and pilots in several business and industrial vertical sectors. R&I projects will be supported by CSAs.

ACROSS: Pioneering Stream A Projects

ACROSS proudly stands as one of the seven Stream A projects, committed to paving the way for the development of 6G networks. Within Stream A, ACROSS conducts research on energy-efficient radio networks, adaptive Open RAN, integrated 5G-Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN), AI-based edge platforms, and intelligent resource management to ensure security, privacy, and trustworthiness.

About ACROSS

ACROSS is a HORIZON-JU-SNS-2022 funded research project that designs and implements an end-to-end service deployment and management platform for next generation networks and services, aiming at unprecedented levels of automation, performance, scalability, and energy efficiency. The platform is further enhanced with a) deep end-to-end telemetry to unlock visibility of the intertwined network and compute system states, b) AI-driven intelligence that leverages both the vast number of events originating from the dense IoT ecosystem and detailed monitoring data originating from the ACROSS telemetry sub-system, to generate new insights, c) full-stack cross-domain zero-touch provisioning via programmable “hooks” that exploit events originating from raw telemetry and AI processed events, and d) secure and trusted orchestration mechanisms for trusted computing technologies over large and heterogeneous cloud-edge deployments, as well as orchestration and monitoring of the security VNF.
