OpenSlice 2025Q2 Release
OpenSlice is an open source, service-based Operations Support System (OSS) prototype for delivering Network Slice as a Service (NSaaS) and more widely, Network as a Service (NaaS) following specifications from main Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), including ETSI, TM Forum, GSMA, and 3GPP.
In July 2025, ETSI Software Development Group OpenSlice (SDG OSL) announced the 2025Q2 release of OpenSlice!
This new version introduces major improvements in user experience, observability, and standard compliance. It also expands testbed capabilities with 3GPP CAPIF integration and steps into the AI era with an experimental conversational management feature powered by the Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server.
These updates reinforce OpenSlice’s role as a pioneering open-source platform for network orchestration and automation, supporting the industry’s transition toward more secure, intelligent, and user-centric telecom operations.
What’s New in OpenSlice 2025Q2
Landing Page Redesign & Metrics View
To enhance First-Time User Experience (FTUE), the landing page has been redesigned for a cleaner, more intuitive experience. A new Metrics view now provides critical insights about the overall utilization across the deployment.
OpenSlice Addons Expanded
The Addons repository is growing! Notable new addition:
- CAPIF Invoker: A new controller that serves as a 3GPP CAPIF API Invoker Management layer. It authorizes access to CAPIF services, manages invokers and token distribution, and facilitates the triggering of exposed Service APIs.
Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server
OpenSlice now includes an experimental built-in MCP Server, enabling AI-powered interactions. Users can connect using their preferred MCP Clients to:
- Browse product/service catalogs
- Order services
- Preview service orders
- Interact with deployed service/resource instances - all through a conversational AI interface
CI/CD Pipeline Enhancements
OpenSlice introduced a new pipeline that builds and publishes each OpenSlice artifact while respecting internal dependencies. This minimizes manual intervention and improves build reliability across the board.
METRICO Evolution
METRICO now offers greater stability and supports day-2 reconfiguration. Users can dynamically adjust metrics intervals, sources, and duration - improving observability and control post-deployment.
